Management approaches have gone through different stages of development over the last century. The changes aimed at improving efficiency were primarily brought along by technological developments. The use of new technologies also resulted in the increased competitiveness of businesses. In the second half of the twentieth century, however, these technologies became available for everyone. Their availability on its own did not guarantee business success any more. The importance of human resources got to the forefront, since managers realized that the existence of technologies alone did not result in success: the knowledge employees possessed was also needed. The aim of the paper is to briefly overview the most important peculiarities of knowledge in businesses, to describe some models of knowledge creation as well as to describe corporate activities related to knowledge creation among the researched businesses.
