About the Faculty

The Faculty of Economics and Informatics at the J. Selye University (FEI JSU) is the only faculty in Slovakia where the members of the Hungarian ethnic minority can study and obtain a university degree in business and IT in their mother tongue.

The faculty has been offering education in four first-level study programmes since the academic year 2018/2019:

  • In the framework of the Applied Informatics study programme we aim to qualify specialists who are able to meet the latest challenges in scientific, technical and economic development and are able to design, implement and transform digital IT systems.
  • The Corporate Economics and Management study programme is also aimed at training professionals who will be involved in the forming of economic thinking and will be able to make decisions on different management levels.
  • The Commerce and Marketing study programme is implemented in cooperation with the Corvinus University of Budapest.
  • The Rural Development study programme is also jointly implemented, namely in cooperation with the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences in Gödöllő, Hungary.

The joint courses are partly taught by FEI JSU staff, and also by lecturers from the partner universities. The graduates receive degrees from both institutions.

The faculty is currently offering two master's degree programmes. The Business Economics and Management study programme is for those who graduated from first-level business programmes and prepares graduates to manage processes, propose solutions and make decisions not only in a business environment, but also in a much wider context in other fields as well. The Applied Informatics study programme is aimed at the training of professionals who are able to meet the challenges posed by today's digital and information systems, and who can pursue a career in IT at home and abroad.

The faculty also offers two doctoral (PhD.) study programmes.  The Business Economics and Management programme primarily focuses on research and science; therefore, it aims to train the most talented, best graduates to become academics in the field of economics. The Education of Mathematics and Informatics programme focuses on the theory and methodology of teaching mathematics and informatics, in addition to the theoretical and practical elements of methodological research.

The faculty is also in charge of running the pedagogical study programmes in mathematics and information technology as well as teaching these subjects at other faculties of the university.

Our study programmes offer training, which is practice-oriented but based on theoretical knowledge. They have been developed for future business or IT professionals who want to become corporate managers at home or abroad in an international environment. Our students achieve good results in academic student competitions and international case study competitions, and they also gain international experience in the framework of European scholarship and mobility programmes.

FEI JSU is a dynamically developing institution with modern infrastructure, modern approach and with a true commitment to science. Through the work of its lecturers, researcher and PhD students, it contributes to international scientific achievements, and the results of this scientific work are published in recognized journals and presented at international scientific events alike. The technical equipment of the Intelligent Robotics Centre with its supercomputer and the launching of the doctoral study programme also contribute to these results. The faculty maintains active scientific relations with its partner institutions and its goal is to implement national and international research projects. It also publishes two scientific journals, the Acta Oeconomica Universitatis Selye and the Selye e-studies. The faculty is also a regular organizer or co-organizer of scientific conferences, workshops and events.
